Union Lighting and Furnishings is Canada's largest lighting showroom and offers a comprehensive collection of fine furniture and decorative accessories. Union caters to both homeowners and trade professionals in their 100,000 square foot building located in the heart of the Castlefield Design District in Toronto.

It all started in 1914 when Star Gas & Electric opened its doors for the first time.  The company grew, and changed its' name to Union Electric to acknowledge the "union" of five brothers and their families.  In the late 1960s, the current building at 1491 Castlefield Avenue was built in Toronto.  In those days, Union was a lighting and electrical supply company distinguished by their superior products and knowledgeable staff for providing reliable service to both the electrical trades and general public.  

A 1968 newspaper article wrote:

"As the visitor opens these doors he is struck immediately by a vast and exciting display of lighting fixtures, literally hundreds of them, hanging resplendently from the ceilings and displayed invitingly from hundreds of feet of wall space. Fixtures of every imaginable description present themselves to the spectator's view - from the simple and utilitarian to lighting that would not be out of place in the Palace of Versailles." 

The old Union showroom was, indeed, something to write about.  The heritage continues on today.  Union Lighting and Furnishings has grown  from its' roots in the lighting industry and has expanded to offer an equally amazing collection of fine home furnishings and decorative accessories. 

Union's credo, "Quality, Value and Service", meant so much that these words were inscribed into the floor of the original Union showroom. Some things never change.  That credo means as much to us today as it did back in 1914. Our entire staff is committed to maintaining the principles that earned Union its nation-wide reputation so many years ago.  In fact, the entire team meets monthly with the objective of improving the customer's experience.

Over the years, in additon to furnishing tens of thousands of Canadian homes; we have supplied museums, resorts, hotels, and even embassies, around the world.   

Today, Union Lighting and Furnishings is Canada's largest lighting showroom, and is recognized by Toronto Life magazine as one of the city's best shopping destinations.  Union has also been honoured to receive BOTH top industry awards - the prestigious ARTS award for Best International Lighting Showroom, and Residential Lighting Magazine's Showroom of the year.
